This old-fashioned chocolate cake is so incredibly delicious—and it’s inspired by one of the first movies I ever fell in love with: Pollyanna. I remember watching it in the early ’80s when I was young, and I was completely mesmerized.

What I loved most was how cozy the movie felt. There’s a scene where they’re getting ready for a party, and all the ladies are in the kitchen with aprons on, making these beautiful, tall cakes—chocolate, vanilla—all decorated in this very old-fashioned way. It wasn’t about being fancy or overly perfect; it was about making something simple and delicious. That moment has always stayed with me.

This cake is a tribute to that memory. It’s made with three thick layers of my favorite chocolate butter cake—rich, soft, and deeply chocolatey. The whole cake is filled and frosted with a silky smooth chocolate buttercream that comes together in minutes using a food processor. I use it generously, both inside and outside the cake, and decorate it just like in the movie—simply, with love, and nothing fussy.
If you’re looking for a delicious, cozy, and classic chocolate cake, this one is a winner. It’s all about flavor, texture, and nostalgia.

You can keep the cake at room temperature for up to 4 days under a cake dome—but honestly, I doubt it’ll last that long. It’s just that good.
